ARLINGTON, VA — Starting June 2, the southbound Interstate 395/Route 1 Exit 8C
ARLINGTON, VA — Starting June 2, the southbound Interstate 395/Route 1 Exit 8C bridge will be closed every Friday night through this fall for work related to the I-395/Route 1 Southbound Exit 8C Bridge Repairs Project, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
Traffic will be detoured via southbound I-395, South Glebe Road (Route 120, Exit 7), northbound I-395, South Hayes Street (northbound I-395 Exit 8C), 18th Street South, South Eads Street and 20th Street South back to southbound Route 1.
Starting June 2, the southbound I-395/Route 1 Exit 8C ramp will be closed from midnight to 7 a.m. every Friday night through this fall. Saturday nights will be used as backup dates with the same closure times, VDOT said.
The bridge was originally built in 1976 and rehabilitated in 1999. It averages 20,000 vehicles a day.
The $4 million I-395/Route 1 Southbound Exit 8C Bridge Repairs Project includes retrofitting and painting structural steel, as well as replacing the catcher beam system and strip seal at the joint. The project is scheduled for completion this fall.
